At Parchment Street Dental we do our very best to help you to look after your teeth and gums with regular check-ups and a variety of preventative measures including professional dental hygiene, thorough oral health checks and daily care advice. However, even with good ongoing care, teeth may sometimes suffer decay or damage and in these cases we offer a full range of different restorative dental treatments to stop decay, eliminate pain and to restore full function and optimal appearance of your teeth.
Keep reading below if you wish to find out more about the treatments available and please ring our reception team on 01962 856748 if you have any questions or if you want to make an appointment with a dentist or hygienist. Please visit our fee guide page for more information about the costs involved in the different dental treatments.
The most basic and common restorative dental treatment is the filling. When a client presents a tooth with decay the dentist will proceed to drill out the affected part of the tooth to remove evidence of the decay and to prevent further decay. Once drilled out, the dentist will fill the tooth either with an amalgam mixture or a composite (white) filling material. Effective fillings can prevent more intensive dental treatments down the line.
A crown is a cap made of a variety of materials that is placed over a tooth and secured dental adhesive. Depending on the client, crowns serve many different functions. Crowns may serve as a protective cover on decayed or fractured teeth or they can be a permanent replacement for teeth with large fillings. Dental crowns can also be used to correct spacing and shape issues in natural teeth.
A dental bridge is made up of two or more crowns for teeth on either side of the gap in the mouth and is supported by natural teeth either side. The false tooth in the centre of the bridge can be made out of porcelain, gold or alloy. Creating a unique bridge for your mouth requires the skills of both a dentist and a dental technician and will improve your bite and facial appearance.
A denture is a removable prothesis used to replace missing teeth and can be either a partial or full denture depending on a client’s needs. A denture is made of acrylic or a combination of acrylic and metal and with correct fitting will restore oral functionality, making it easier to eat well and speak clearly, whilst also improving facial appearance and overall confidence.
Root canal treatment is used to save a tooth after severe infection or necrosis of the nerve in the affected tooth. Root canal treatment requires the expertise of an endontics specialist and offers a thorough and effective way of saving a tooth from extraction. Once the root canal treatment has been completed the tooth is filled or covered with a dental crown.
