Dental care,
refined by light.
Laser dentistry uses focused beams of light energy to perform a range of soft tissue procedures with a precision that traditional instruments simply cannot match. Rather than cutting with a scalpel, the laser works by delivering controlled energy to tissue, allowing it to be shaped, removed, or stimulated with minimal impact on the surrounding area. The result is less bleeding, less swelling, faster healing, and considerably greater comfort throughout.
At Parchment Street Dental, we use the Quicklase™ 12w Dual Diode Laser, a UK-made system operating at dual wavelengths of 810nm and 980nm. This combination gives us the flexibility to treat a wide variety of conditions, from ulcer relief and gum recontouring to periodontal therapy and minor oral surgery, all within a single, unhurried appointment.
Less trauma. Faster recovery. More precise results.

precision makes.
Laser dentistry is not simply a more modern version of the same procedure. It changes the nature of treatment entirely, reducing the impact on surrounding tissue and transforming what recovery looks and feels like.
Minimal bleeding
The laser simultaneously cuts and coagulates tissue as it works, sealing blood vessels as it goes. This means most soft tissue procedures are virtually bloodless, giving your clinician a clearer field to work in and significantly reducing the post-operative discomfort associated with conventional surgery.
Faster recovery
Because the laser seals the wound as it works and causes less trauma to surrounding tissue, healing times are typically shorter than with traditional techniques. Many patients return to normal life the same day, with swelling and discomfort that resolve far more quickly than expected after conventional surgery.
No sutures needed
For the majority of laser soft tissue procedures, stitches are not required. The laser effectively closes the wound during the procedure itself. This removes the need for a return appointment to have sutures removed, and eliminates the associated discomfort of having stitches in place during healing.
Reduced infection risk
Laser energy is inherently bactericidal, meaning it destroys bacteria in the treatment area as it works. This natural decontamination of the site reduces the risk of post-operative infection compared to traditional instruments, which do not have this sterilising effect. The result is a cleaner wound and a more predictable healing process.
Greater precision
The focused beam of the laser allows your clinician to work with a level of accuracy that a scalpel simply cannot match in confined spaces. Only the intended tissue is affected, leaving the surrounding area completely undisturbed. For procedures such as gum recontouring or crown lengthening, this precision is what separates a natural-looking result from a noticeable one.
Eight ways laser
can help you.
Our Quicklase™ laser is used across a wide range of procedures. From healing and pain relief to precise soft tissue surgery, many treatments that once required a referral can now be completed here, in a single appointment.
Smile enhancement
Laser technology allows us to refine the appearance of your smile with a precision that traditional instruments cannot match, whether reshaping the gum line or accelerating your whitening result.
- Laser teeth whitening The 650nm visible light beam activates the whitening agent directly, accelerating the bleaching process for faster, more dramatic results in a single in-practice session.
- Gingival recontouring For a gummy smile or uneven gum line, laser recontouring reshapes soft tissue with precision and no sutures, often combined with veneers or composite bonding.
Periodontal care
Laser energy targets and eliminates bacteria deep within periodontal pockets while decontaminating the site, supporting more effective healing than conventional scaling alone.
- Periodontal pocket debridement Removes bacteria and diseased pocket lining in gum disease, reducing pocket depth and supporting healing more effectively than scaling alone.
- Clinical crown lengthening Repositions gum tissue to expose more tooth structure where a crown or restoration is needed, achieved with precision and minimal recovery time.
Soft tissue work
Many procedures that once required a surgical referral can now be carried out here in a single appointment. The laser replaces the scalpel entirely, with no stitches and considerably less recovery time.
- Operculectomy Removes the gum flap over an erupting wisdom tooth, eliminating the site of recurring infection with no sutures and fast, straightforward healing.
- Frenectomy Releases the frenum to improve tongue movement or protect gum attachment. Fast, bloodless, and suitable for both children and adults, with no stitches required.
Pain & recovery
Low-level laser therapy stimulates the body's own healing response, reducing pain and inflammation and shortening recovery times after both acute conditions and surgical procedures.
- Ulcer healing A single short treatment reduces inflammation and often provides immediate pain relief. Most patients notice a significant improvement within 24 to 48 hours.
- Post-procedure healing Applied after extractions, implant placement, or oral surgery to reduce post-operative pain, swelling, and healing time. A gentle adjunct that makes a meaningful difference to recovery.
Not all lasers
are the same.
We invested in the Quicklase™ 12w Dual Diode Laser because it is simply one of the most capable dental laser systems available in the UK, and it is made here. It allows us to carry out a much wider range of treatments than most laser systems, all within a single appointment, and with consistently precise, comfortable results.
For you as a patient, this means less waiting, less discomfort, less recovery, and more certainty about the outcome. The technology quietly does the hard work so you barely have to think about it.

Everything you might want to know about laser dentistry before your appointment. Still have a question? We are always happy to help.
Most patients find laser treatment considerably more comfortable than they expected. For soft tissue procedures, the laser works with a precision that causes minimal trauma to surrounding tissue, and many treatments require little or no local anaesthetic. There may be mild warmth or a brief sensation during treatment, but this is generally very well tolerated. Post-operative discomfort is also significantly lower than with conventional surgery.
Yes, when performed by trained clinicians using properly maintained equipment, laser dentistry is safe and well established. Our team hold certification through the British Institute of Laser Dentistry, and our Quicklase™ system meets all CQC regulatory requirements. Protective eyewear is provided for all patients during laser treatment as a routine precaution.
Recovery from laser soft tissue procedures is typically far shorter than from conventional surgery. Most patients experience minimal swelling and discomfort that resolves within a day or two, and many return to normal activities the same day. Because no stitches are required in most cases, there is no need for a follow-up removal appointment. Your clinician will advise on what to expect for your specific procedure.
For many procedures that were previously referred to oral surgery departments or specialist clinics, laser treatment allows us to carry out the work here at Parchment Street Dental. Operculectomy, frenectomy, and clinical crown lengthening are examples of procedures that can now be completed in a single appointment without requiring a separate surgical referral. We will always discuss what is appropriate for your individual situation.
The best starting point is a consultation. Many patients are not aware that laser treatment is available for their particular concern until it is discussed at an appointment. If you have been told you need a soft tissue procedure, are suffering from gum disease, have a recurring ulcer, or are simply interested in what laser dentistry can offer, we are happy to assess your situation and advise honestly on whether laser treatment is the most appropriate option.
The result you need. Far less of what you feared.
